Complete Brewery Guide to the Northern Oregon Coast

Disclaimer; I have done my best to ensure accurate information at the time of posting but things change. Please leave me a comment or send me a message if you find anything to be incorrect or if things have since changed. Much of the Oregon Coast is seasonal, busy from May-September and the offseason may impact hours and days of operation for any businesses.

Northern Coast

ASTORIA;

1- Rouge Ales Public House

2- Hondo’s Brewery   Website  |  FacebookUntappd

One of my Top 10 Breweries on the Oregon Coast. Hondo’s acts as a homebrew supply shop, bottle shop, AND a cozy brewpub. Walking in, you will likely be greeted by Dexter, the dog, and the friendly staff.  If you are lucky then you might catch owner and brewer, Hondo, and pick his mind of extensive beer knowledge. There is a small bar to sit at, board games to play, a diverse selection of high-quality brews, and a home-like atmosphere.

3- Fort George Brewery  Facebook  Instagram  Website  |  Twitter  | Untappd

When asking people around Oregon for brewery recommendations, Fort George Brewery is a frequent suggestion. Loved by many Oregonians, I assumed that they had to have a great reputation for a reason. Their location is impressive, taking the entire block. The taproom is a multilevel experience; you can choose to climb the spiral staircase up to the pizza lounge area or stay downstairs to eat off of their full menu. The pizza lover inside of me immediately climbed the metal stairs to beer and pizza heaven. I made some easy friends with other bar patrons and the staff were lovely company as we chatted and listened to Neil Young.

4- Reach Break Brewing Facebook  Instagram  Twitter  |  Untappd

After visiting Hondo’s Brew Pub, I was recommended to visit Reach Break Brewing next. Arriving to a large outdoor patio with a few food trucks surrounding it, Reach Break has a cool hangout vibe. People were chatting over beers as the lighting turned from golden hour to sunset. Inside, where you order your beers from the friendly bartender, sports were on tv and locals gathered to chat and watch. The beers pair well with fresh air and upbeat music.

6- Buoy Beer Company Website  Facebook  Instagram  Twitter  |  Untappd

One of the most memorable brewery experiences on the Oregon Coast was at Buoy. Located along the waterfront boardwalk and trolley line that crosses Astoria, even arriving is exciting. You can hear sea lions barking as you approach their brewpub. After entering their building, you will discover  a glass panel that allows you to look down at them while you wait. It is hard not to be impressed with the floor to ceiling windows that look out to the mouth of the Columbia River and great Pacific Ocean.  I had one of my favorite trinities;  beer, salad, and french fries and a great afternoon looking out to the water.

Even as the busy summer season had come to an end, the restaurant quickly filled with people as the servers hustled around. Minors are permitted inside and WIFI is available.

PACIFIC CITY;

1- Pelican Brewing Company Website  Facebook  Instagram  Twitter  |  Untappd

With three locations on the Oregon Coast, I decided to visit the Pacific City brewpub since it was the original location of the brewery. The restaurant is surprisingly large, winding back around itself. It is also located directly on the beach with a breathtaking view of the enormous haystack rock.. Being in such proximity of this view makes Pelican in Pacific City of the best brewpub experiences to have on the coast. My mother and I shared a pre-determined tasting flight of beer and I ate mushroom tacos off of their daily special list.

Pelican’s Pacific City location is along Sandlane Road, a 16.5 mi (26.5 km) loop off of Highway 101. They have a full menu and rotating specials in their fast paced restaurant.  The atmosphere is very family friendly and allows minors. There is no WIFI at their location.
